Jezuz Rach... that's truly a profound experience and one that would change the way you look at life. In some bizarre way I feel happy for my experience because ever since then I've realised on some level what it is to live. It's true to say that you never know yin until you know yang; diametric opposites give each half perspective.

But it's easy to become sedated again living in the first world, where everything is easy and life can quickly become numb. I think this is the reason why reality TV shows are as popular with the masses as the ratings say they are. Perhaps if there was more a sense of appreciation of life beyond the mundane then reality TV wouldn't have the same hold on the bored first world. But as we continue to numb our experiences we further degrade the value of what life truly is.

But this is all a rant for another time. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Rach. Very interesting to hear. And yes, I do appreciate more now that you are with us!

Holy crap! Scary shit Andy!

I had a near drowning off the coast of former Yugoslavia where I was being washed out to sea and just couldn't get back. After the initial struggle and panic this profound sense of calm and acceptance came over me and I just floated for a while. Very strange feeling, accepting that you are most likely going to die huh? And once I accepted that I was rescued.
